Hamburg's great hall of art
Lovers of fine painting invariably start here, one of Germany's largest and most satisfying collections. Housed in three buildings constructed in 1869, 1919 and 1997, the museum features works from medieval to present day, including Bertram, Holbein, Massys, Rubens, Rembrandt, Caspar David Friedrich, Philipp Otto Runge, Klee, Picasso, Dix, Max Beckman, Warhol, Richter, Baselitz, Sigmar Polke, Jeff Koons, Neo Rauch and Rosemarie Trockel. Plus new media and video, prints, drawings and photography. Conveniently located near the Lange Reihe, just by the Hauptbahnhof (Central Station).
